Fighting for Social Justice
Welcome to episode #9 of the podcast! During this episode, we speak with Claire Harper, a US Midwife who for 9 months, uprooted her life to serve the women of the Democratic Republic of Congo with an organization called Doctors without Borders.
Doctors without Borders is an international humanitarian medical non-governmental organization of French origin. They are very well known for working in areas of high conflict as well as in countries that are affected by endemic disease. Their mission is to provide medical aid where it is needed most.
Claire is a woman who cares wholeheartedly for the health and well-being of the women of this planet. She believed at this was the time for her to experience working and serving others in a place that needed it most. She is an inspiration for those who want to make that leap of faith but needed a tiny push.
During this episode, we talk about…
Claire’s beginnings and what drew her into the life of being a midwife
What responsibilities distinguishes midwives from RNs
How she decided that this was the time in her life to become a missioner and care for those in the most vulnerable of communities in the world
How Doctors without Borders chooses their candidates and how the placement process works
The ultimate reasons why people go on mission trips and how some intentions are not always the most pure
And much more!
