LXMI / Anna-Maja Bjorkenvall
Clean Beauty and Humanity…
On this episode of the global health pursuit podcast, I have a conversation with Anna Bjorkenvall - the CEO of the socially and environmentally conscious clean beauty company, LXMI. The name LXMI is derived from the name of the Hindu goddess Laxmi with two hands open to receiving and two hands for giving. LXMI was founded by late Leila Janah - a leader in social entrepreneurship who believed that the only way to alleviate poverty in the world is by giving work that not only provides fair and living wages but also transferrable skills.
LXMI was founded upon this model when Leila stumbled upon a shea butter nut called Nilotica in East Africa. After seeing the results on her own skin, she needed to share it with the world.. thus creating LXMI - a clean beauty company that puts humanity first.
During this conversation we speak to Anna about her beginnings - growing up in Stockholm, Sweden and living in 4 countries around the world. We speak about how Anna discovered LXMI and developed a close relationship with Leila. She worked closely with Leila since her start with the company and took LXMI under her wings while Leila was undergoing her cancer treatment. And finally, we speak about LXMI as a company, its focus on clean beauty while empowering the underserved and environment at the same time.
