Why community health workers play a key role in improving the health of communities worldwide...
On this episode of the Podcast, I speak with Jean Pierre-Louis or JP for short. JP is currently the founder and CEO of a nonprofit organization called Capracare - an organization that provides comprehensive access to health services, professional development, and educational. Services to specific communities in Haiti. They are dedicated to developing sustainable community health programs for the people they serve.
During the episode, we dive into how JP emigrated to the United States in the 1990's when he was just 9 years old. We speak about how, in the 5th grade, he was bullied for being a haitian. He was even accused of having HIV when he didn’t even know what it was and was blatantly told to go back home. What is remarkable about this conversation is learning how JP was able to turn hatred, in the form of bullying, into pure motivation to help the people of Haiti through the building blocks of community health.
During this episode, we talk about…
JP’s motivation to studying public health and creating a non-profit that uplifts the health of communities in Haiti
The economic status and healthcare system of Haiti
What a community health worker is exactly and why they are so important to improving the health of a community
Why leadership and development are important parts of Capracare as an organization
Why it is so important to not just give your dollars but experience life of the underserved
And so much more…
