Episode 24 - Elevating women entrepreneurs worldwide…
On this episode of the global health pursuit podcast, I sit down with Michelle Fusco - the executive director of a nonprofit called the Sundara Fund. The Sundara Fund began as a grassroots, soap recycling nonprofit organization which has since hired 40 women from underserved communities to upcycle over 1 million bars of soap while also providing essential hygiene education.
Over the years, the team at Sundara realized that the most innovative ideas for change came from the people who live in the very same communities that need change. And by embracing this, they launched RISE by Sundara, Rewarding Innovative & Sustainable Entrepreneurs.. I'm excited to share this conversation with Michelle because it shows that change can come from within anyone, anywhere, and within any situation!
During this episode, we talk about…
The beginnings of Sundara and the focus around recycling soap to build better hygienic practices in rural areas of India
What Michelle learned from witnessing poverty and places that lacked the basic necessities of WASH
Why soap recycling was so needed
The unique business model of Sundara and it helped build the economy by partnering with Hotel CSR initiatives
Why Sundara launched RISE and the importance of supporting entrepreneurs from all walks of life
And so much more…
